Permit terms
| Initial duration | Not applicable The term has no fixed numeric value: the reunified relative's authorisation runs to the same date as the sponsor's own authorisation at the moment the relative enters Spain, with a floor of one year. The rule is carried by initial_duration_basis. |
|---|---|
| How the initial term is set | matches the sponsor's permit |
| Renewable | Yes as of 2025-05-01[2] Applied for in the two months before expiry or within the three months after it. |
| Renewal duration | 4 years as of 2025-05-01[2] The renewed authorisation runs for four years and permits employed and self-employed work without any limitation; its validity remains conditional on the sponsor's own authorisation being maintained. A report evidencing integration effort from the autonomous community may be submitted among the renewal documents. |
| Work rights | Recorded at the source, but not reducible to a single value as of 2025-05-01[2][4] |

Requirements
| Who can sponsor | temporary permit holder, permanent resident as of 2025-05-01[4] The sponsor is a lawfully resident foreign national. The general rule is that the application may be filed once the sponsor has resided in Spain for at least one year and has applied for authorisation to reside for at least another year; the authorisation cannot be granted to the relative until the sponsor's own renewal or long-term residence has actually been granted. Two exceptions dispense with the one-year rule: a sponsor holding a long-term or EU long-term residence authorisation granted in Spain, for the reunification of ascendants; and a sponsor resident in Spain on the basis of prior EU long-term resident status in another member state. Spanish citizens do not sponsor through this route – relatives of Spanish nationals have their own regime – so 'citizen' is not recorded. The sheet does not enumerate which permit TYPES qualify. |
|---|---|
| Eligible relations | spouse, registered partner, unmarried partner, minor child, adult dependent child, parent, other dependent as of 2025-05-01[4] Spouse, or a person over eighteen in a relationship of affection analogous to marriage – registered in a public register in an EU member state, or a stable partnership proven by any admissible means, with at least twelve continuous months of cohabitation unless there are common descendants. Only one spouse or partner may be reunified. Children of the sponsor or of their spouse or partner who are minors at the time of the application, or adults with a disability requiring support, or adults objectively unable to provide for their own needs by reason of their state of health. Persons legally represented by the sponsor on the same age and health conditions. First-degree ascendants of the sponsor or of their spouse or partner, where dependent, over sixty-five, and where reasons justify authorising their residence in Spain; exceptionally, on humanitarian grounds, ascendants under sixty-five meeting the remaining requirements. And an adult child of the sponsor or of their spouse or partner who will act as carer where the sponsor has a recognised degree of dependency under art. 26 of Ley 39/2006. 'Ascendiente en primer grado' is recorded as 'parent'; the legally represented persons and the carer child are recorded as 'other_dependent'. |
| Sponsor income requirement | 1.50 × Public Multiple-Effect Income Indicator per month as of 2025-05-01[4] |
| Sponsor accommodation requirement | Yes as of 2025-05-01[4] Adequate housing must be available, evidenced by a report issued by the competent body of the autonomous community of the sponsor's residence, or by the local authority where the autonomous community has so provided. Where no report is issued and notified within one month of the request, the requirement may be justified by any means of proof admissible in law. The report or its substitute may be no more than six months old at the date of the reunification application. Health insurance for the sponsor and the reunified family members is also required. |
| Sponsor waiting period | 1 year as of 2025-05-01[4] One year of prior residence in Spain by the sponsor, subject to the two exceptions recorded on sponsor_statuses. |

Process
| Where to apply from | in-country only as of 2025-05-01[4] The authorisation is applied for in Spain by the sponsor, in person or through a representative, at the Oficina de Extranjería of the province where the sponsor resides or electronically through Mercurio. The relative then has two months from notification of the grant to apply in person for the visa at the Spanish consulate covering their place of residence, one month from notification to collect it, one month from collection to enter Spain, and one month from entry to apply for the foreigner identity card. No in-country switching route is described on the sheet. |
|---|---|
| Statutory processing time | 2 months as of 2025-05-01[4] Two months, with the application deemed REFUSED by administrative silence if not notified in that period. On renewal the period is three months and silence is POSITIVE; on an application for an independent authorisation it is three months and silence is negative. |

Family inclusion
| Family members may be included | Not applicable This route IS the family instrument, so the per-route family attribute does not apply to it. Onward sponsorship by a reunified relative is possible only once that relative holds an independent residence and work authorisation under art. 69 of Real Decreto 1155/2024, and for ascendants only once the relative holds long-term residence. |
