| Official name (English) | Temporary residence permit for students to seek employment or self-employment as of 2026-08-25[3] Translation; no official English name is published. |
| Legal basis | Zakon o tujcih (ZTuj-2), 44.b člen, kot ga je spremenil 24. člen ZTuj-2I (Uradni list RS, št. 32/25) as of 2026-08-25[3][7] ZTuj-2I article 24 rewrote the first paragraph of article 44.b to change the instrument itself: what was a single permit (enotno dovoljenje) is now a temporary residence permit (dovoljenje za začasno prebivanje), and the third indent of the paragraph was deleted. That change is why the permit no longer authorises work – a single permit does by definition, a purpose-bound temporary residence permit does not. The paragraph's surviving indents were not read; the amending act states the substitutions rather than the resulting text. |
| Instrument type | residence permit as of 2026-08-25[3][7] The card records the permit type as 'iskalec zaposlitve'. |
Who can apply
| Nationals not served by this route | EU, EEA as of 2026-08-25[1][2] |
|---|---|
| Minimum age | Not established from a qualifying source Not established; no age condition is stated. |
| Criminal-record condition | Not established from a qualifying source Not established. The Ministry's page for this permit does not list a criminal-record certificate among the documents, unlike its pages for the study, employment and researcher permits, but it does not state an exemption either. |
Permit terms
| Initial duration | up to 9 months as of 2026-08-25[3] Issued for at most nine months. The Ministry states both the ceiling and that it is issued once. |
|---|---|
| How the initial term is set | fixed |
| Renewable | No as of 2026-08-25[3] Issued once for at most nine months and cannot be extended. |
| Work rights | none as of 2026-08-25[3][7] The Ministry states it in terms: on this permit you may not perform work, you may only look for it. The change is recent and structural – ZTuj-2I article 24 converted the instrument from a single permit, which authorises work, into a temporary residence permit, which does not. |
Permanent residence and citizenship
| Counts toward permanent residence | Not established from a qualifying source Not established. |

Requirements
| Job offer required | No as of 2026-08-25[3] By definition: this is a permit to look for employment or to set up as self-employed. |
|---|---|
| Labour-market test | No as of 2026-08-25[3] No Employment Service step appears in the procedure; the permit does not authorise work. |
| Qualification requirement | degree as of 2026-08-25[3] Studies completed at a Slovenian post-secondary (višješolski) or higher-education (visokošolski) institution within the last two years, and at least a post-secondary or higher-education qualification obtained. |
| Own means requirement | 1 × basic amount of minimum income per month as of 2026-08-25[3] Article 33(3) of ZTuj-2: sufficient means of subsistence for the period of residence, monthly at least in the amount of the basic minimum income in the Republic of Slovenia. The general condition on every temporary residence permit; the Ministry's page for this permit repeats it without an amount of its own. |
| Job-search route | Yes as of 2026-08-25[3] |
Process
| Where to apply from | in-country only as of 2026-08-25[3] The permit presupposes studies completed at a Slovenian post-secondary or higher-education institution within the last two years, and the application is made at an administrative unit; where the faculty has not yet issued the completion certificate the unit accepts the application and sets a deadline for producing it. |

Physical presence
| registration only | to keep the permit as of 2026-08-25[1] Temporary residence must be registered with the administrative unit within eight days of entry, of service of the document, or of taking up residence. |
|---|
Family inclusion
| Family members may be included | Not established from a qualifying source Not established. The Ministry's page says nothing about family members, and article 47(1)'s one-year condition is not obviously satisfiable on a nine-month non-renewable permit. |
|---|---|
| Eligible relations | spouse, registered partner, unmarried partner, minor child, adult dependent child, parent as of 2026-08-25[4][6] Article 47(3) of ZTuj-2 defines family members as the spouse, the partner in a registered or civil partnership or a partner in a long-lasting life community; the foreigner's minor unmarried children; the minor unmarried children of that spouse or partner; the parents of a minor foreigner with whom the foreigner lived in a family community before coming to Slovenia; and adult unmarried children and parents of the foreigner or of the spouse or partner whom they are obliged to support under the law of their state of nationality. Article 47(4) allows the authority to treat a further person as a family member by exception. |
| Family may apply at the same time | No as of 2026-08-25[7] The fourth sentence of article 47(1) as replaced by ZTuj-2I article 29 does not name holders of this permit among those exempt from the waiting period. |
