Article 33(3) of ZTuj-2: a foreigner must have sufficient means of subsistence for the period of residence, monthly at least in the amount of the basic minimum income in the Republic of Slovenia. This is the general condition on every temporary residence permit in the Act and the Ministry's page for this permit repeats it without stating an amount of its own.

Not established. The permit does not permit an employment relationship, and the Ministry does not say whether the hosting agreement must be remunerated by the Slovenian host or may rest on funding from abroad.

The researcher's job-search permit is a separate permit under article 38.č and is recorded separately as si-dovoljenje-raziskovalec-iskanje-zaposlitve.

Physical presence

Temporary residence must be registered with the administrative unit within eight days of entry, of service of the document, or of taking up residence.

Family inclusion

Family inclusion
Family members may be includedYes as of 2026-08-25[2][4][8]
Article 47(1) of ZTuj-2 recognises the right to family reunification for holders of a temporary residence permit; seasonal workers and daily cross-border migrants are excluded by the same paragraph.
Eligible relationsspouse, registered partner, unmarried partner, minor child, adult dependent child, parent as of 2026-08-25[5][7]
Article 47(3) of ZTuj-2 defines family members as the spouse, the partner in a registered or civil partnership or a partner in a long-lasting life community; the foreigner's minor unmarried children; the minor unmarried children of that spouse or partner; the parents of a minor foreigner with whom the foreigner lived in a family community before coming to Slovenia; and adult unmarried children and parents of the foreigner or of the spouse or partner whom they are obliged to support under the law of their state of nationality.
Family may apply at the same timeYes as of 2026-08-25[2][4][8]
The fourth sentence of article 47(1) of ZTuj-2, as replaced by article 29 of ZTuj-2I, names this permit's holder among those who may reunite family members with no limit tied to the length of their residence in Slovenia or to the validity of their permit. The Ministry's family-member page adds that the researcher's application and the family member's application are decided together where they are filed together, and that a family member of a researcher on a SHORT-term transfer (type C) neither needs nor is issued such a permit.
Family members' work rightsNot established from a qualifying source
Not free access. A holder of a family-member permit who wants to work needs an informativni list obtained through an employer, which the Employment Service issues after a labour-market test; the Employment Service's free-access list does not include family members of an ordinary permit holder.
