Initial durationRecorded at the source, but not reducible to a single value as of 2026-07-01[4]
Art. 46(2) gives 2 years to an alien admitted to a second-cycle programme and art. 46(4) gives 3 years to an alien admitted under the same clause to a residency or a doctoral programme, with a change for the remaining study period but no longer than 3 years. One clause therefore carries two different terms depending on which programme the applicant is admitted to, and initial_duration can hold only one. In each case a permit issued or changed for the final year of studies runs for a period up to 6 months longer than the expected study period.
