Permit terms

Permit terms
Initial duration9 months as of 2026-03-03[4]
RenewableNo as of 2026-03-03[4]
NDGAP: 'Validity period of the residence permit is maximalised in 9 months which cannot be extended.'
Maximum total duration9 months as of 2026-03-03[4]
Work rightsNot established from a qualifying source
NDGAP publishes no work-rights clause: the factsheet does not state whether the holder may take up employment with a Hungarian employer or be self-employed during the 9 months. The purpose-of-residence documents point both ways – a certificate from the competent national employment body (Government Office) that the applicant is registered as a service requester, and a certificate from a Hungarian-registered business organisation that actual employment will start within 3 months of submission. NDGAP separately states that a holder may apply in Hungary for a Hungarian Card, an EU Blue Card or a guest self-employment permit during the permit's validity.

Requirements

Requirements
Job offer requiredNo as of 2026-03-03[4]
No job offer is required to obtain the permit; the permit exists to look for one. The applicant must instead prove completion of his studies or research and that the intended position or business matches its level, and must produce a Government Office certificate of registration as a service requester or a certificate from a Hungarian-registered business organisation that employment will start within 3 months of submission.
Qualification requirementdegree as of 2026-03-03[4]
Eligibility is confined to holders of a valid Hungarian research permit who have completed their research, or holders of a valid Hungarian study permit who have successfully completed their studies, in each case where the intended position or business matches the level attained.
Employer sponsorshipNo as of 2026-03-03[4]
No employer or sponsor is required; the applicant lodges the application himself via Enter Hungary.
Own means requirementNot established from a qualifying source
NDGAP requires proof of sufficient resources for subsistence, accommodation, return or onward travel and healthcare, evidenced by an employer or tax-authority income document, a document on regular foreign income, or a credit-institution certificate. No figure, currency or period is published.

    • Charged per: application
    • Paid by: applicant
    • Condition: Application submitted in Hungary via the Enter Hungary platform

Physical presence

Physical presence
none statedto keep the permit as of 2026-03-03[4]
NDGAP publishes no presence, day-count or reporting condition for this permit, and the standard 90-days-in-any-180 extension condition cannot apply because the permit cannot be extended. The only timing condition is that the application be lodged at least 15 days before the underlying study or research permit expires.

Family inclusion

Family inclusion
Family members may be includedNo as of 2026-03-10[1][3]
NDGAP's job-search factsheet itself says nothing about family reunification. The bar is established from the family-reunification factsheet's closed list of excluded sponsor permit types, which reads 'holds a residence permit for the purpose of studies (including the purpose of seeking job or starting a business), training'. The European Commission's EU Immigration Portal reproduces the same exclusion list.
