Establishment card

Route status

Closed as of 2026-06-26[1][2]
Closed to new applicants on 1 April 2023. SIRI's own news item announcing the amendments to the Aliens Act taking effect that day states it in terms: the Establishment Card will be abolished as a scheme, but it will still be possible to apply for an extension of an establishment card. There is no first-time application page on SIRI's site, only an extension page. Existing holders may extend where the current card is shorter than 2 years, or where they have held it at least 1 year and 9 months and are employed at least 20 hours a week in a job relevant to their Danish educational programme; owning and running a business cannot found an extension. A card runs 2 years initially and may be extended by a further year, to a total of up to 3 years – so the last cards will have run out well before this record's next boundary review.

Closed to new applications; what happens to existing holders is recorded in the status details.

Official name (local)Etableringskort – forlængelse as of 2026-08-22[1]
Heading of the Danish-language edition of this route's own page on nyidanmark.dk, transcribed as published. The Aliens Act enumerates the grounds by section number and gives the permits no names of their own, so the authority's published Danish heading is the local name.
Official name (English)Establishment card as of 2026-06-26[1][2]
Legal basisUdlaendingeloven (Aliens Act), LBK nr 1183 of 25 September 2025, section 9 a(2)(10) as consolidated in LBK nr 1205 of 25 August 2022; repealed by Act no. 333 of 28 March 2023 with effect from 1 April 2023, the repeal not applying to applications lodged, or permits granted, before that date as of 2026-08-22[1][3]
The establishment card scheme (etableringskortordningen) was section 9 a(2)(10) of the Aliens Act as consolidated in LBK nr 1205 of 25 August 2022. The current consolidation carries the repealing Act's own commencement provision, and that provision names the repealed subsection, which is why the number can be given for a scheme that no longer exists. Extensions remain possible because the repeal is disapplied to applications lodged before 1 April 2023 and to permits already granted. Note that section 9 a(2)(10) in the current consolidation is Start-up Denmark: the number was reused after the repeal, so the same number points at two different schemes in the two consolidations. Danish text: “Lov nr. 333 af 28. marts 2023 (Styrket international rekruttering) indeholder følgende ikrafttrædelsesbestemmelse: § 2 Stk. 1. Loven træder i kraft den 1. april 2023. Stk. 2. § 1, nr. 3, finder ikke anvendelse for udlændinge, der inden den 1. april 2023 har indgivet ansøgning om opholdstilladelse efter etableringskortordningen, jf. § 9 a, stk. 2, nr. 10, jf. lovbekendtgørelse nr. 1205 af 25. august 2022, eller som inden 1. april 2023 allerede er meddelt opholdstilladelse efter etableringskortordningen.”
